We're the Photographer.
You are the Superstar!
We've been taking senior portraits since 2001 and love every minute of it. Our job is to bring out the celebrity, the artist, the athlete, the genius, the fashionista, the skater, the singer inside of you, so you can share it with everyone else.
This is an amazing time for you. Let’s capture it.
You're about to check into the real world, relying on your talents to make it big. We want to capture you just as you are, right now, so you can look back on yourself in later years and remember who you were right before one of the biggest transitions of your life. You're gorgeous, you're courageus, and eager to fly the nest. It's the perfect time to dress up and immortalize the moment on camera.
We hope you enjoy looking through this website, full of great photos, inspiration, and ways to make your senior portraits unforgettable.
We love to create an experience with you that's completely yours. Represents your essence. What makes you the person you are? What do you love? How do you express yourself?
Each portrait session aims to answer these questions while making you look absolutely fabulous. Many of the young adults we work with enjoy multiple outfit changes to represent the different facets of their life and interests. One moment you're the star of your soccer team, grass stained from head to toe but loving every bit of it, and the next you're off to a glamorous night out in your favorite designer outfit. This is how you live your life. This is what your portrait session should ultimately reflect.
At Julie Waites Photography, we prefer to take photos in natural light, rather than an artificially lit studio environment. Natural light illuminates skin tones with a soft radiance and makes you look stunning. We love to work with you one-on-one to choose a location that's both meaningful and flattering.
We hear stories over and over again of clients who’ve taken images of themselves or had a quick, inexpensive session with a photographer and left only with digital images. Photographs aren’t meant to lurk forever on a hard drive; they’re meant to be printed, displayed, touched, and shared. We’ve designed our program and packages to ensure that you will end up with stunningly beautiful, last-a-lifetime physical pieces that become family treasures. Our products are painstakingly selected from print labs that only sell to professional photographers, ensuring a level of quality you won’t find with consumer-grade print houses. We lovingly hand-retouch each image before it goes to print, sometimes spending hours on perfecting the crop, color quality, and removing any blemishes that might become apparent when the photograph is printed in large format. Your end result is not a gallery of digital images; it’s an album, a canvas, a print - tactile artwork for your home or dorm.
YOU are only this age one time in your life.
At Julie Waites Photography, we specialize in offering something for everyone. We've bundled our most popular offerings for your ordering convenience, although we also offer a wide variety of add-ons for those wanting a more customized experience!
As artisans as well as photographers, we strive to offer only the very best in product quality. Many of our items are hand-made, shipped directly to our studio for a final going-over before we present you with your heirloom masterpiece. We do not sell any albums, prints, or canvas without an "archival" rating, to ensure that your custom-made art piece will last for decades.
Additionally, we offer stunning graphic designs to masterfully present your images as works of art.
We have plenty of people we can recommend for make-up and hair if you'd like to go that extra mile to make your day perfect.
Once we've decided on the right location for your family, we'll go ahead and get the date booked for your photo session! In order to reserve your day, a $175 family session fee is required.
On the day of your session, we'll meet at the agreed location and time and start snapping away! A portrait session can take anywhere from 1-2.5 hours. There's really no rush - or general time limit - just what feels natural. It generally takes at least 30 minutes for us to "warm up" together, meaning getting comfortable and feeling relaxed in front of (or behind!) the lens. After that, it's really up to the photographed subject as to how long the session will last. This is the fun part - let us do the work!
The photos have been taken, individually retouched with great love and care, and now it's time for you to see the end result of all our hard work and planning! One of our clients' favorite parts of the entire Julie Waites Photography experience is getting to see their beautiful images projected larger-than-life in the comfort of studio! We'll a slideshow to present to you with your images that you can view on our comfy couch. At this point in time, you'll have the opportunity to choose the photographs you would like to have as prints, albums, canvas, or a variety of other handcrafted photo products we offer. We'll go over a pricing guide and make recommendations for photo products we think would enhance your living space! This is your time to ask questions, place orders, and get excited about your images.
The location of your photoshoot can be anywhere - from your yard to a nearby park. At Julie Waites Photography we believe the most important factor in choosing a location should be its emotional value to you and your family. Being in the same spot something wonderfully memorable happened in the past can evoke strong emotions and great moments in front of the lens (think first kiss, a special "I love you" moment, first date, etc.). Natural settings, such as parks and wilderness, can create beautiful backdrops for photographs. If you prefer your photoshoot indoors, rooms with big windows and lots of light are always a great choice!
Props are any kind of object or item included in photographs. In general, props can add detail, interest, and meaning to your images, especially when they hold sentimental value to you or your family. Ideas include baby blankets or wraps, love letters, heirloom furniture, a vintage dress handed down in the family, old photographs, handkercheifs, shoes, trophies, a suitcase, travel souvenirs, or anything else that's close to your heart. We love working with props; if you have questions or need ideas, just ask!
What exactly do I expect?
If this is your family's first time working with a professional photographer, it can be difficult to know what to expect. What should I bring? Will there be enough time to get the perfect picture? Will my child feel uncomfortable in front of the camera? We completely understand these feelings of concern; you are not alone! We are here to work for and with you to make your session as stress-free as possible. Remember, this is supposed to be fun!
Our method of working is simple: we tailor our photography to you and your family. Each session is a unique experience, built from the ground up just for you. In our initial consultation, we'll discuss things like the family schedule, favorite locations, and attention spans to make your photo day a smashing success. This is your day to relax and enjoy your family; we'll do the rest!
Planning in advance is the key to success! If your family or child has a daily routine, it's best to schedule the photo session in a way that works with, not against, this routine. If your child has a certain naptime, we'll plan the shoot to be either before or after she wakes up to prevent tantrums and fatigue. If your baby generally sleeps during the afternoon, a morning session may be best. We are here to make your session a success, and will work with you individually to find a time and place that fits the family!
If we've chosen an outdoor location for your photos, we will most likely be at the mercy of the weather! If the day turns out to be extremely hot, which can be dangerous and frustrating for the family, we'll find an alternate date for the photos. Similarly, for rainstorms, snow, or extreme cold, we'd rather reschedule than push everyone into an uncomfortable place! We will be in communication the day before and day of the session to discuss any challenges that may arise and deal with them in the most convenient way possible for your family.
